The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a region of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, located along the Tanzanian border. Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, and hippos. Wildebeest traverse their plains during their annual migration, which sets in in mid-July when the wildebeest cross the crocodile-infested Mara River. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers.
